Everyone
Has the right
To a healthy life
Of the 39.9 million people living with HIV, nearly a quarter are not on treatment and a life is lost to AIDS every minute. The Elton John AIDS Foundation is committed to overcoming HIV and LGBTQ+ stigma, discrimination, and neglect that prevents us from ending AIDS for everyone, everywhere.
Join UsWhat we fund
Ending AIDS begins by meeting the needs of those who are among the most marginalized: the LGBTQ+ community, young people, and people who use drugs. From the United States to India, and from Ukraine to Kenya, we support organizations around the world to increase access to health care, tackle LGBTQ+ stigma, and advocate for equal rights in the communities that need it the most.

Creating equality for LGBTQ+ communities
There is a surge of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and discrimination across the globe that restricts the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, including their right to basic healthcare. Alarmingly, nearly a third of all nations classify LGBTQ+ people as criminals and same-sex intimacy is punishable by death in 12 countries. We speak out against prejudice and stigma to change laws and policies and ensure LGBTQ+ people have access to equitable, non-judgmental HIV testing, treatment and care.
Empowering Young People to take charge of their health
Young people aren’t getting enough support. This is especially true for LGBTQ+ young people, adolescent girls and young women. Until now, too many services have failed to engage young people in ways they want and need, leading to a surge in HIV cases among this generation. We’re creating one-stop shops for youth, integrating mental health services with existing sexual and reproductive health care to support both their physical and mental well-being.
Minimizing the Harms Associated with Drug Use
Stigma from the war on drugs and limited access to harm reduction services make it hard for people who use drugs to access proper care and support. We’re addressing the intersection of drug use, HIV, and social stigma, working toward a world where everyone has access to the treatment and support they need. That includes ending violence and criminalization against people who use drugs, expanding access to effective harm reduction services, and ensuring political commitment and funding to protect their health and well-being.
Ensuring no one Is left behind in the USA or the UK
Rates of HIV and AIDS have dramatically declined in the United States and the United Kingdom since their peak in the mid-1990s. Yet, stigma and unequal access to HIV prevention (PrEP) and care continue to stand in the way of ending new HIV cases. Through our advocacy and partnerships, we are working to break down these barriers to ensure that people living with HIV receive the support they deserve, and that HIV prevention is accessible to all at risk in both the U.S. and the UK.
Reversing trends in Eastern Europe and Central Asia
We have a long history of supporting people living with or at risk of HIV across Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA), a region often overlooked in the global HIV response. While HIV is declining globally, EECA is one of the few regions in the world where the epidemic is getting worse, with new HIV cases increasing by 20% and AIDS-related deaths increasing by 34% since 2010. Through our RADIAN partnership with Gilead Sciences, we have provided hundreds of thousands of people across the region with lifesaving care and support.
