In June of this year, when Elton John received the Legion d’Honneur from French President Emmanuel Macron, he called upon world leaders and urged them to commit to fully replenishing the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.

We are so pleased to let you know that this vital goal has been reached. On October 10, under the leadership of host President Macron, participating donors at the Global Fund’s Sixth Replenishment Conference pledged over US $14 billion to save 16 million lives over the next three years. This represents the largest amount ever raised by the Global Fund, and indeed, the largest amount ever raised for a multilateral health organization.

October 10 also marked the announcement of a contribution of $25 million to the Global Fund from the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF). This funding will amplify the MenStar Coalition‘s efforts to scale up HIV self-testing among young men in Africa, building on our existing work with fellow MenStar partners CIFF: Children’s Investment Fund Foundation and Unitaid.

These are huge steps forward, and at the Elton John AIDS Foundation, we commend the generosity of Global Fund participating donors and pledge to continue our own efforts to help achieve our joint vision of an AIDS free future.
